How the conversion works
SaveToDrive decodes the HEIC image and re-encodes it as JPG on a background worker, then streams the result straight into your connected drive. The photo's pixel dimensions and orientation are carried over, so nothing is rotated, cropped or downscaled.
HEIC and JPG are both lossy formats, so there is a re-encode step — but at the default quality the difference is negligible for viewing, printing and sharing. The file is processed in memory as it streams through; we don't keep a copy once the job finishes.

FAQ
Will this work with my iPhone's Live Photos?
The still-image HEIC frame converts to JPG normally. The separate video component of a Live Photo isn't part of the image conversion.
Do I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
JPG is a lossy format like HEIC, so there's a re-encode step, but at default quality the difference is negligible for normal viewing and sharing.
Is HEIC → JPG free?
Yes — image converts are included on the free tier within your transfer quota.
Can I convert a whole album of HEIC photos at once?
Yes — upload or transfer the batch and pick JPG once; each photo is converted as it streams into your drive, so a large album doesn't stall on any single file.
Where does the conversion happen — do you keep my photos?
On our worker, in memory, as the file streams to your drive. The original and the converted JPG both land in your account; we don't keep a durable copy on our side after the job.
What if I want a smaller, more modern format instead of JPG?
Convert HEIC to WebP instead — same one-step flow, smaller files than JPG at similar quality. JPG is the right pick when you need maximum compatibility.
