How the conversion works
SaveToDrive re-encodes the PNG as JPG on a background worker and streams the result into your connected drive. Any transparency is flattened onto a solid background, since JPG has no alpha channel.
The image is processed in memory as it streams through; nothing is written to a disk we keep. JPG is lossy, so it's the right pick for photos and sharing — for sharp text or line art, PNG keeps edges crisp.

How much smaller will the JPG be?
For photographic images, often dramatically smaller — JPG excels at photos. Flat graphics and screenshots save less, and are sometimes better left as PNG.
What happens to a transparent background?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent areas are flattened onto a solid background. If you need to keep transparency, stay with PNG or convert to WebP instead.
Will I lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so there is a re-encode — at the default quality it's negligible for photos, but sharp text and line art can soften, so keep those as PNG.
